Pet Wellness Exams

Adopting a pet is a big responsibility. Your pet will rely on you for everything, such as food, shelter, love, and attention. Your pet also relies on you to keep it healthy between visits to the veterinarian’s office. Annual pet wellness exams are an essential part of maintaining your pet’s health. Our team at Caring Hands Veterinary Clinic in Philadelphia helps the local pet community with wellness exams and quality veterinary services.

Nose To Tail Exam

During your pet's annual wellness exam, our veterinarian will perform a complete examination from nose to tail. This will ensure that your pet is healthy and does not have any medical conditions. During your pet's exam, our vet will inspect the following:

  • Eyes
  • Nose
  • Teeth and gums
  • Ears
  • Skin and fur
  • Heartbeat
  • Respiration
  • Lungs
  • Your pet's gait while it walks

Vaccinations

Your pet will need regular vaccinations to remain healthy. When your pet is still young, it will require several vaccines. As it gets older, it will need annual booster shots. Most local communities require that all pets are vaccinated against rabies regularly.

Weight Checks

Weight checks are an essential part of your pet's annual wellness exam. Around 60 percent of cats and 56 percent of dogs are overweight or obese. When a pet is overweight or obese, it can cause serious health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, and joint problems. During your pet's annual exam, it will be weighed. If our vet determines that your pet is overweight or obese, we can create a diet and exercise regimen to help your pet lose some weight. It will be up to you to make sure that your pet sticks to the diet so it can get back down to a healthy weight.

Medications

Fleas and ticks are a significant problem for pets. It is essential that you keep your pet on preventative medication all year long. It will also need to take heartworm medication. These medications can be purchased from our veterinarian during the annual visit. If your pet requires any prescription medications to remain healthy, you can purchase them as well during your pet's annual visit to our vet.
